Frequently asked Questions

Why is the high street retailer sometimes cheaper than you?

When manufacturers build computers they use different grades of internal components. Consumer (High Street) products use cheaper components as these machines are expected to be used relatively lightly - maybe 2-3 times a week for short periods. Commercial units use higher grade components to cope with being used/on perhaps 24/7.

Why do you need to do a site survey?

We want to make sure that disruption to your business is kept to a minimum. During the visit our engineer can make suggestions around installation workflow, additional support services and give pointers on things you may not have considered.

Why don't you just send an engineer straight to me?

We are able to resolve around 80-85% of all issues remotely. We aim to answer your call and be dialled in within 5 minutes of you ringing. Often, we could have fixed your problem far quicker than the time it takes to get an engineer to you. But don't worry. If we can't fix it, site visits are included in Support Contracts and we shall get someone out to you in a jiffy!

Why do I need online backup instead of a physical backup?

A physical backup, such as external hard drive, is vulnerable to the same risks as your computer, such as fire, theft & most vulnerable during a cyberattack. An online (cloud) backup stores your data securely in data centres within the UK & EU, protecting it from any disaster that might affect your business. It also offers the convenience of encrypted & automated backups, so you don't have to remember to do it yourself and gives you the ability to access your backup from anywhere with an internet connection.

Why do I need to upgrade my IT hardware?

Upgrading your Dental IT hardware is crucial for maintaining a secure and efficient business. Older equipment often slows down due to several factors such as Windows, Antivirus and other essential software updates, which can reduce your team's productivity and lead to frustrating delays. More importantly, outdated hardware and software may lack the latest security updates, leaving your business vulnerable to cyber-attacks and data breaches. Microminder offers IT Rental as an option which includes NO UPFRONT PAYMENTS & FIXED MONTHLY FEE. Investing in new hardware can save you money in the long run through improved efficiency, reduced downtime and benefit from increased security from the latest windows updates.

Why do I need a Penetration test?

A penetration test, or "pentest," is a simulated cyber-attack on your IT systems to find and fix security weaknesses before a malicious hacker can exploit them. This proactive approach is essential for any practice. It helps you identify vulnerabilities that could lead to a data breach and assesses how well your current security measures hold up against real-world threats. A pentest also provides an independent report that helps you prioritise which security issues to fix, saving you time and money in the long run, performing regular pentests is recommended for compliance with GDPR.

Why is Cybersecurity important in dentistry?

Dental practices hold a wealth of sensitive information, including patient medical histories and financial details, which makes them a prime target for cybercriminals. Cybersecurity services are crucial for protecting this data from threats such as ransomware and phishing attacks. Failing to secure this information can lead to severe consequences, including significant fines under regulations like GDPR, a loss of patient trust, and major operational disruption. A robust cybersecurity strategy not only protects your practice legally and financially but also maintains the confidentiality and integrity of your patients' data, which is a fundamental ethical responsibility.
